The Site
The goal of DiabetesHerbalRemedies.com is to serve as a convenient one-stop source for herbal supplements that help regulate blood sugar and to provide information on the latest research to help you select the right brands for you.
With so many manufacturers, ingredients and blends on the market, how do you know which formulation works best? This site will provide news and information about herbal supplements for type 2 diabetes and its precursor, metabolic syndrome.
The Science
Our goal is to inform you about and provide links to the latest research on how herbal supplements may impact blood sugar in general.
In addition to taking prescribed medication, diet and exercise are the most important elements that remain under your control to help manage type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, according to many doctors. Some also advocate the use of herbal supplements, and many peer-reviewed science articles indicate their usefulness. Consult your physician for advice on whether your regimen should include botanicals such as herbs and spices.
Me
My name is Ilona. Using standard fasting blood glucose criteria, no doctor would diagnose me with diabetes or even pre-diabetes. But my blood pressure is higher and my belly bigger than desirable, so I did some digging and turned up findings that glucose levels an hour after a high-carbohydrate meal are predictive of full-blown diabetes down the road. First thing the next morning, I ate a cup of white rice, measured my blood sugar, and BAM! I soared way over the cutoff point, although the numbers dropped to normal shortly thereafter. It won’t be easy, but I’m going to try (try being the operative word….) to follow this protocol, devised at Newcastle Hospital in the UK, where doctors put a small group of type 2 diabetes patients on a crash diet and found that their blood glucose normalized within a few weeks. This line of thinking places the blame for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome squarely on fatty liver and fatty pancreas, and, by extension, on obesity.
